Robben Island and Langa

Yesterday we used the sunshine to visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was arrested for 18 years. An ex political prisoner gave us a little insight about the things happened here. The rest of the day we spent in Langa staying at Mthunzi's mother's house where we had an original braii with lots of people coming around. Not just the food was delicious. There was also wonderful music around when the band jammed and the others joined with singing and dancing. They also sang some african songs… Continue

Weekend in Cape Town

Yesterday we started the day with a nice time in the city to get a little feeling for the town. At Green Market Square we had the chance to buy some souvenirs before the band went to Zula Bar for sound check. Before the gig we were for dinner at the "Africa Cafè" were we could taste a lot of different african food and a little show. The whole personal came in and sang some traditional songs for us. Sawubona UPDATE
About a year ago we started with SAWUBONA and "Songs Of Good Hope" and there are a lot of good songs on the blog. Siyabonga, thank you all, for all contributions so far. Now it's time to sort out where we are with the "Songs Of Good Hope". We have songs for almost every "Song Of Good Hope". Some of the songs are more or less ready to use, some are still in draft versions and it's time to make all this contributions transparent. As we are still waiting for the MusicFactory and expect to get ready within the next 4 weeks, please check the list if we have listed all your contributions. The list will be the basic for the MusicFactory.

There is still a big challenge to work more on the songs and room for improvment for draft versions. Lyrics like "Ouma", "Monica", "Ben" and "Dealing With The Past" could have a change to get more music versions.

We plan for the end of this year a first CD and all songs for this first publishing must be ready until 1 October 2009. A second CD will follow in spring 2010. It would be absolutly great to get your musical input until the end of September this year!

Here is the list of the lyrics and songs - update 9 April 2009

Please send us a comment if we have overseen some contributions!

The Field Band Foundation - A Great South African Musicproject

SAWUBONA is in contact with the Field Band Foundation in South Africa and we want to discuss how we can work together. The Field Band concept is built on the global youth activity known otherwise as show bands. This specific discipline was chosen first for the long historic presence of brass music in South African communities. This activity also allows for large group participation. All 24 projects of the Foundation have a minimum of 125 youths actively involved. Today, the FBF has about 4,000 participants.
