Do you, and how do you celebrate Christmas?

What are your normal habits for Christmas, is it your family celebrating together? What is your favorite Christmas music or poem?

Or are you waiting for another "red letter day" in the year which is your important breakpoint every year?

Just wondering about the common and the different things round all the world......

Moin, Babu,

never fast enough, but who says it't too late to contribute "Always"?

Did a little song over your poem "Christmas Always" - you'll find the very first draft - still without vocals, but with a little fantasy you may check out how it will be. Some phrases will have to be altered to fit to the rhythm.

And since the message of the Bible is free for everyone, I decided to combine it with an additional intention:

This song shall be produced entirely by "free-of-charge" software and sounds, i.e. without any expensive instruments or gadgets that everyone is so proud of nowadays. So what you hear now is sounds of the "Yellow Tools - Independence Free" sample-playing programme (3 instances by now), recorded by a free-of-charge (magazine-inlay-) copy of a commercial multitracking software, and encoded to mp3 by Open Source Lame encoder. I'll try to extend that idea with this song (as long as you don't mind) within future versions, e.g. by adding new free sound engines, singing vocals through a build-in mic, etc. Only "prereq" I assume is a small/old Windows PC wih internet and sound input/output.

Maybe I'll be lucky to demonstrate today's technology is suitable to support artists to produce and publish music which would have been expensive or hardly-to-afford some years ago.

What do you think about it all, and of course the music?

P.S. Hope you had peaceful and inspiring celebrations.

Moin, Babu,

hope making studies in Japan is less confusing than trying to record Christmas vocals via webcam microphone, but hey - this shall be the super low cost song, avoiding usage of every equipment that may be costly or uncommon, so here is the first version with vocals. I found it gives the song some nostalgic lo-fi attitude.

Hope you don't mind I adapted your poem to the rhytm, since steady metrics might be 1st choice for harmony feelings in Christmas songs :-) At least I tried to keep your message.

Sorry it's a very European style - maybe someone will give it a different direction sometimes.

Later I might add some more "free-of-charge" sounds for that idea, and re-start a discussion on it in a topic that will focus on the question how to record music for projects like ours without having to buy any music equipment.

Dear Sawubona Community,

in fact we have another champion among our Sawubona Poets:

Babu has won a Christmas poetry contest of RBC Ministries at ymiblogging.org with the poem you can read (and hear) here in this forum.

I think we all can congratulate to this outstanding achievement - no matter which religion we actually are belonging to - to my eye it is good there are winning poems with a message for a better and peaceful world - which in fact has common grounds with our Sawubona beneficial message.

Babu has been finalist in our Sawubona "Poems of Good Hope" contest - and has been my personal favourite indeed.

cd review

by Norman DarwenThe first four tracks encapsulate Arkansas-born Billy Jones. ...a wicked, raw, live version of Albert King's 'Personal Manager', 'my Hometown', a bleak, stark portrayal of the ghetto set to a busy but laid-back and bluesy musical commentary that epitomizes what some have defined as his "gangsta bluez" (...though it is perhaps even better on 'Ain't Good Lookin'), the rocking, rollicking, down-home, and subtly Howling Wolf inflected 'Blues Comes Callin'' and the bluesy/ reggae…See More
