A united Africa can only be possible when we have achieved peace in our respective countries. We are a VERY LONG way from achieving that pinnacle...

60 journalists in Iran could be freed because of your signature! Sign in and petition release please! It is simple.. and only three days to go! I hope you see it amidst Easter Joy!

Niran, Carsten and Eileen,

Yes, to des- escalate it and try to save some lives.. what must we do? when I think of the challenge from the man we lost last year and who became the African of the Year last year, of Okello Oculli, I ask, are we done in knowing how to organise don´t agonise/b>/b> as he used to tell us in Kenya? Tajudeen Rahim, He lived and worked in Kenya before his road accident demise last year. He is/Was the voice of the modern day Pan Africanist. Where are we today in liberating ourselves? I wrote to Mandela the other day and posted it to my blog our of this same frustration! I know when I read No easy walk to Freedom that all the answers, all his answers are there.. but it is like we need a loud clarion call that resonates form corner to corner in Africa and that leads us to make our current politicians sober up so they move out! I will write to Okello and ask him to come up with measures here and see what we can do. I have a deep conviction that we can do something!

Niran,

I feel the pain and am lost for words especially when you say it makes you numb. It reminds me and not only reminds me, opens deep wounds again and again, and will they ever heal? Yesteray, when I read about Jos, I held my breath.. about the president, the presidency and all manner of things I had read and felt like this is beyond horror ....But I have hope in people like you. I heard Wole Soyinka was in a demo? That the poet talked? I know there are so many voices of reason in Nigeria! It is the wrong time for you to hear that I do ask myself over and over again at the same time as saving hope.. where we go wrong so often.. and why? I really would like to hear more from you and to tell you to try and challenge the numbness through the pen!

Niran, you haven't told the whole story of the doctor strike. My mom is a social worker in Kalafong hospital and they were badly affected by the strike. Please DO tell the full details. I am sure our foreign friends would like to know

Hello, Niran,

do you have details upon what's going on in Jos?

What is the background, and what must be done to deescalate?
Comment by Niran Okewole on March 8, 2010 at 11:31pm
How right you are, Carsten. An ailing president who wont let go...unrest in Jos... last week we doctors were on strike for a couple of days because some budgetary provisions have not been effected...it all makes you numb.

Wow! that is great! Drama Society sounds good. My friend Shailja has written Caught in the Act, a drama about homophobia... you might want to look at it? for performance there? She is not in SA but sure would be happy?

By the way you guys, I have started my own dramatic society here in Johannesburg that we can also use as a platform for performances etc.
