The Sawubona All Stars Project

WE NEED YOU ALL: Poets for lyrics, songwriters for chords and melodies, and musicians for great sound. The task: Work together on ONE common soccer song for South Africa. If we all give the power, we all give the best...

The idea

To write an appropriate soccer hymn for South Africa may be more difficult than to do the Sawubona lyrics.

We may need:
* Text motifs and slang words for anything in SA that is addicted to soccer, special or recognisable.
* Melody fragments of typical (South-)African soccer chants of the common fans
* (South-)African rhythms that may also appear at the match
* "Europamericasian" Poprock music to mix it up with the African ingredients above
* Lots of musicians.

Maybe we can build it up the "Band Aid" style, so everyone has "his second" or can support the choir.

=> So this might be true "Sawubona All Stars"

Moin, Conny,

that is also very well done!
While for my personal view Jacob has some clever ideas for the verses, your's might be good approaches for a refrain - I esp. like the last section! So please just don't you wait to open our minds for your melody!

Sitting round,
the Table
Mountain
we move,
together
for the world.

We are here
togehter
in Peace,
Friendship's
what we're finding here.

All is going round and round
like the ball
with a happy sound.

Champions,
Champions all we are,
People,
People, from near or far.
We are here
at the Cape of good Hope
make Party with the world,
without Dope.

Hi Guys, thats my Idea for some lyrics and i just have a melody in my head.

Africa is making history
Sitting side by side
with the giants of football
Who said that
We shall never do it
Arise Africa.

As the world descends to the south
Of this continent
An epoch is registered
In the annals of history
The goalposts are not empty
But Africa
Is not empty of goalgetters too

Africa
Feels proud
Of hosting the grandest football festival
Play the host
And not the visitor
Set the ball rolling
And go to goal
Here in S.A
The land of epochs.

Courage
Is a virtue
Whose weight
Has been born
By our brothers
From the south

Do you remember
Robben Island
And Nelson Mandela
Do you remember
Steve Biko
Do you remember
Tha days of pain and agony

This is the time of joy
Amandla
You surmounted the hill of apartheid
You can surmount the hill of FIFA too

Hi Carsten, bin heute seit langem mal wieder auf Sawubona gewesen. Hast du die Geschichte mit den Digital Musicians schon gesehen oder getestet? Wie geht es so, was macht die Musik?   Gruß Conny

cd review

by Norman DarwenThe first four tracks encapsulate Arkansas-born Billy Jones. ...a wicked, raw, live version of Albert King's 'Personal Manager', 'my Hometown', a bleak, stark portrayal of the ghetto set to a busy but laid-back and bluesy musical commentary that epitomizes what some have defined as his "gangsta bluez" (...though it is perhaps even better on 'Ain't Good Lookin'), the rocking, rollicking, down-home, and subtly Howling Wolf inflected 'Blues Comes Callin'' and the bluesy/ reggae…See More
