If you have never been in Second Life before, here are some useful hints:

Download program:

Second Life is free to join. The registration and sign-up process is very simple – just register on the homepage of Second Life (www.secondlife.com) and download the software you will need to explore this virtual world. Besides registration and some minimum technical requirements, Second Life holds no further access restrictions. After installation, please start the program ‘Second Life’. Now enter your log-in information on the welcome screen - you will be taken straight to Second Life’s welcome island.

For Second Life there are different membership schemes. The so-called basic account is free of charge and allows you and your avatar to create objects like cars or outfits. Some other actions or elements in Second Life come with a charge. In order to take advantage of these, you will need to exchange real money for Linden Dollars. However, many things in Second Life are free and can be used straight away – these objects or services are otherwise known as freebies.

Create your avatar:
As a resident of Second Life your visible, virtual identity is the so-called avatar. And in matters of appearance, there is no distinction between basic or premium accounts: give your avatar the look, body shape and outfit you’ve always wanted! Features like hair colour, skin colour, face, built or outfit can be modified according to taste.

First Steps in Second Life:

In addition, Second Life lets you to choose between two different modes of movement. You can either run and fly or cover long distances by using the teleport function. This function will take you straight to any location in Second Life you have entered as your destination. To allow for the fact that avatars can fly, many buildings come with open roofs and permeable walls to facilitate access.

Besides choosing your avatar’s look and outfit, Second Life allows you to fulfil those long-cherished dreams. With Second Life’s optional development software you can design and construct a virtual home according to your very own specifications. The same applies to furniture and furnishings – design them yourself and spruce up your home! If this sounds like too much work, you can also commission a virtual architect or interior designer to create and furnish a home that conforms to your personal wishes.

Besides creating objects and products, enterprising residents offer a huge variety of services for you to experience. From relaxation in a luxury resort to a leisurely round of golf on an 18-hole course to a glamorous dinner at a top restaurant – the choices are endless. But please remember: In Second Life you, too, can shape your surroundings! With your membership and enthusiasm you can actively change and leave your mark on this vibrant online community. In this world, there are no limits to your imagination and ideas: become a true part of Second Life.

cd review

by Norman DarwenThe first four tracks encapsulate Arkansas-born Billy Jones. ...a wicked, raw, live version of Albert King's 'Personal Manager', 'my Hometown', a bleak, stark portrayal of the ghetto set to a busy but laid-back and bluesy musical commentary that epitomizes what some have defined as his "gangsta bluez" (...though it is perhaps even better on 'Ain't Good Lookin'), the rocking, rollicking, down-home, and subtly Howling Wolf inflected 'Blues Comes Callin'' and the bluesy/ reggae…See More
