Ein traumhaftes Video - Musiker auf der ganzen Welt performen gleichzeitig den Song "Stand by me". vielleicht auch mal eine Idee für einen Sawobona-Song?

Adorable video! Musicians all over the world performing "stand by me" at the same time"... Maybe a good idea for a sawubona song? :o)
Enjoy!

Hi guys and girls,

yes Dieter, that's exactly what I thought first... ;o)
And wouldn't it be a good idea to do so for the start of the "Big CD" in autumn? If we get a cool video like this one, maybe we would reach the big TV-Video-World like viva, MTV etc. - and make a perfect promotion for the CD and explain the idea of sawubona.... It's a big target - but why not?!

Great idea, great video!!! -- Maybe we should think about a follow up with a "Song Of Good Hope" - not exactly the same but inspired by "Stand by me"?

Moin, Petra,

in fact, we did it already several times - we have done some geographically distributed music mergers yet - and it takes only little effort and only simply technology - I once even demonstrated how to do it only with no-cost software and no-cost software-instruments (i.e. nothing you'll have to own or buy) - so litterally everybody with access to the internet and the possibility to install a little software (if not already owned) can join us.

Here are some alternatives we have tried:

1) Full re-arrange: That is the most "old fashioned way" - I think this needs no description... (my own exaple would be "The Moon" I was asked to re-arrange by Gillian, from disco to swing)

2) Bastard Remix: Take two formerly independent songs, adjust speed / pitch, stack them on simultaneous tracks, and add some sounds (e.g. fat beats) to cover artefacts (my example would be "MaYiHlome Ithemba Ma Arfica", where I stacked Lucky's song "MaYiHlome" with Connys "Ithemba Ma Africa", where Conny kindly provided her voice as a single track.)

3) Track substitution: If the composer can provide single tracks of the song (e.g. as mp3), they can be re-stacked in any audio software again and single tracks can be substituted. You could find that one in "New Hope", where I donated a new string arrangement for Anke Johannsen's contest song to replace the live-keyboard strings in the 2nd half of the song.

4) Also very common if single tracks are available is the classic remix technique. Gillian is a master in that area, I'm proud she made a little try on my "Monica". I also gave Lucky's "Rainbow Scatterings" another garnment, and Billy and Andreas are also busy with it sometimes...

5) Most advanced could be considered "composing together": Invent a new song together from the scratch. Please see under our bloggroup "Sawubona All Stars Project" to see how we interleaved some African Lyrics, Conny's melody idea (demonstrated via phone recording in first place) and the first arrangement fragments I tried. It's not completed yet, 'cause it lacks South African participators to bring in original flavour...

While the Music Factory appears to be no priority on Sawubony any more (once was meant to be the track exposure / fast recombination tool), this does not hinder these processes at all. We mostly upload mp3 tracks to the bloggroup "Musicians Wanted!", and provide Lyrics and chord sheets at "Songwriters' Inn", and everyone can download it and work at home with own&known software tools.

So, how can we get you and the others into our world?

:-) Carsten (-:

Hello Conny,

I'd love to know how they really did it. :o) Would help a lot...
But I'm shure, we can do if we like to ;o)))

Hi Petra, i love this idea. We should brainstorm together and each one should talk to musician friends all over the world. I think we can make it but it will take time to organize and how Carsten said we need professional help. Conny

...that's exactly what this platform was meant for originally (of course, music w/o the pictures).
I tried hard to do, e.g. with the "Sawubona All Stars" approach, the "Musicians Wanted" forum etc. etc...

My results:

1) Most music amateurs lack the possibility (technically, by skill, by motivation, by will)
2) This obviously has to be organized by music professionals therefore
3) Music professionals appear not to have time / need / will to do it.

But sometimes our world is full of wonders (the video is somehow), so if you like to contradict to this, you are heartly welcome....

cd review

by Norman DarwenThe first four tracks encapsulate Arkansas-born Billy Jones. ...a wicked, raw, live version of Albert King's 'Personal Manager', 'my Hometown', a bleak, stark portrayal of the ghetto set to a busy but laid-back and bluesy musical commentary that epitomizes what some have defined as his "gangsta bluez" (...though it is perhaps even better on 'Ain't Good Lookin'), the rocking, rollicking, down-home, and subtly Howling Wolf inflected 'Blues Comes Callin'' and the bluesy/ reggae…See More
